With several kilograms of lithium available in each electric vehicle battery, this chemical content is very important to every manufacturers. The dilemma is that the two largest producers, Chile and Australia, are far from their battery production plants.
Thus, the environmental and climate impact of lithium is very real, as it must be transported thousands of kilometers before it can be used in a battery.
In addition, lithium mining conditions can have a negative impact on the environmental climate, particularly due to the large supplies of water needed for lithium mines. But even then, an electric car is still "purer" than a combustion engine car.

CATL reported several months ago that it was working on sodium-ion batteries in the lab, with a promise for the future that would interest all future electric vehicle buyers: batteries that are much cheaper.

Today we understand that lithium alternatives, such as sodium-ion batteries, will be produced by CATL at a time to be determined in 2023. This means that the first vehicles equipped with such batteries will hit the roads at the beginning of 2024, with good benefits. and the disadvantages that this brings. . In addition to these sodium-ion batteries, CATL's Qilin battery will be mass-produced in the first quarter of 2023, the latter with recharging in the blink of an eye and a range that easily surpasses current batteries: a range of 1000 km and a recharge in 10 minutes.
