ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System plays an important role in improving safety for passengers and pedestrians.  Safety is also one of the most important aspects when buying a car and safety is very closely linked to technology.

   Cars in India have started incorporating ADAS technology into their systems to improve road safety.  This modern security technique was limited to luxury cars, especially some Volvos.  However, the same technology can now also be found in some mass-market vehicles.

    1. Hyundai Creta facelift

    The second generation Hyundai Creta debuted in March 2020 and is now getting a facelift. The SUV will be hosting for the first time at the Dubai Motor Show.


    The new Creta will be equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) which includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, rear-end collision in cross traffic,

    The front fascia of the mid-size SUV is heavily inspired by its bigger brother, the latest Hyundai Tucson.  The new parametric front grille covers most of the front and the LED DRLs are well integrated into the fin-shaped elements.  The SUV gets a redesigned tailgate with boomerang-shaped LED taillights and redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels.


    The cabin layout remains the same as before, but the new Creta gets a new color scheme.  The car gets a bigger infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and also gets a fully digital instrument cluster.


    The 2023 Creta continues to be powered by the same engine options, including a 1.5-litre MPi petrol, a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel and a 1.4-litre tGDi turbocharged petrol.  Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed IVT and 7-speed DCT.



    2. Kia Carnival 2023

    The facelifted Kia Carnival was launched globally in 2021.  Although the Indian launch schedule has not yet been announced by the automaker, it is expected to arrive sometime next year.

    The Carnival 2023 MPV will feature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology that enables High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA), or Rear Traffic Collision Assist (  RCCA) includes Hold Assist (LKA), Lane Keep Assist (LFA), Driver Attention Warning!  (DAW), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) and Intelligent Cruise Control (SCC).


    Speaking of dimensions: the new Carnival measures 5155 mm in length, 1995 mm in width and 1775 mm in height.  The Carnival will be offered worldwide with the 3.5-liter V6 MPi petrol engine, the new 2.2-liter Smartstream and 3.5-liter GDi V6 Smartstream engines. 


 In India, the 2023 Kia Carnival is expected to be available with the 2.2-liter diesel engine capable of 200 hp and 440 Nm.  An 8-speed automatic transmission handles the transmission tasks.


  Some of the features to focus on are Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Surround Vision Monitor, Forward Collision Avoidance, and High Beam Assist.



3. Kia Seltos facelift

      Kia recently launched the facelift version of the Selto overseas and Kia India is preparing to launch the facelift version in India.


      The facelifted Kia Seltos features eye-catching exterior updates to set it apart from the existing model.  The front fascia consists of a revised LED headlight cluster, redesigned LED daytime running lights that extend into the grille, a redesigned front bumper and a signature air intake covered by a forged aluminum skid plate.

      The updated Kia Seltos will also get ADAS features similar to the Hyundai Creta, with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring.


      The SUV also gets redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels on the sides and slimmer LED taillights at the rear.  Inside, the SUV will feature a 10.25-inch infotainment system with connected car technology and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  Other features include a power sunroof, ventilated and power seats, 360-degree camera, digital instrument cluster and more.


      The SUV should remain technically unchanged and be available with two petrol and one diesel engine.  There are 1.5-liter NA four-cylinder petrol engines with 115 hp and 144 Nm, 1.4-liter turbo petrol with 140 hp and 242 Nm and 1.5-liter diesel with 115 hp and 242 Nm.



      4. 2023 Tata Harrier

      The Tata Harrier debuted in 2019 and has received numerous colorways and editions over its lifetime, but it's now expected to receive a major facelift.


      Recently updated Tata Harrier tested on Indian roads.  The car was fully camouflaged but from what we could see the Harrier is getting a major facelift with a new grille and air dams.

      We can also see a radar on the front to house the very important ADAS functions.  Among other things, the SUV will have adaptive cruise control, long-distance assistant, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, a drowsiness warning system and more.


      We'll also likely see a range of new LED headlights and LED DRLs.  The car will also get a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels and at the rear, some minor bumper changes are expected.


      The car is also expected to get a larger touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology.  Other expected features include a 360-degree camera, all-digital instrument cluster, and more.


      Speaking of the engine, the updated Harrier will carry the same Fiat-based 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 170hp of power and 350Nm of torque and will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.  Also expected is a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which has been talked about for a long time.



5. Tata Safari facelift

    Recently the Tata Safari Facelift was tested on Indian roads.  The spied model appears to have an ADAS (Advanved Driver Assistance Systems) sensor on the lower front bumper, indicating that the new Tata Safari will have ADAS capabilities.

    The Safari is expected to get ADAS features identical to those of the Tata Harrier.  The SUV will feature adaptive cruise control, long-distance assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, a drowsiness alert and more.  The straight silhouette is visually similar to the current model.


     We're not expecting any changes in terms of dimensions, but since this will be the Safari's first major facelift, we can expect redesigned front and rear bumpers, redesigned headlights, revised taillights and redesigned alloy wheels.  However, the spied test mule ran on the actual 18-inch alloy.


    Speaking of the engine and transmission, we expect the 2023 Safari to continue with the same engine and transmission options, including a 2.0-litre turbodiesel with 6-speed MT and Hyundai's 6-speed torque converter automatic.


    Tata is also expected to introduce the refreshed Safari with a new 1.5-litre Revotron petrol engine as demand for petrol in the SUV segment continues to grow in India.


    The current model costs between Rs 15.44 lakh and Rs 23.75 lakh (ex-show) and we expect the new Safari to be at least Rs 1 lakh more expensive.  At launch, the Safari will continue to compete with the MG Hector plus, Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV 700.



    6. Hyundai Verna facelift

    The updated Hyundai Verna was recently spied on Indian roads.  The new Hyundai Verna is expected to get redesigned front and rear bumpers, a shark fin antenna, integrated LED DRLs, front and rear LED lighting and two-tone alloy wheels.

    The Hyundai Verna will have ADAS features similar to the facelifted Creta.  The sedan gets adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, cross-traffic impact and blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking with forward collision avoidance, and more.


     Mechanically, the 2023 Hyundai Verna is powered by the same 1.5-litre 113 hp petrol and diesel engines, apart from retaining the 1.0-litre turbocharged 118 hp petrol engine.


    Inside the cabin, the 2023 Hyundai Verna comes with a range of features including a larger infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, ventilated seats and a solar-electric moonroof.  In terms of security, the biggest update will be the ADAS system that makes it safe.


    At launch, the 2023 Hyundai Verna will compete against brands such as Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia.
