First Look: 1967 Ford Electric Mustang 536HP!

   The smart #1 is smart's brand new electric car.  New philosophy, new dimensions and unprecedented performance: it's simple, it's a far cry from what you would think of an electric smart.

   The iconic smart, known as the tiny two-seater city car, is a thing of the past.  Make way for the latest generation with the smart #1 (pronounced hashtag one), ushering in a new era for the brand.  While the little fortwo we all know was confined to inner cities, the smart is now growing and growing to extend its range of action to weekends and outings.

   In the form of a very compact SUV (4.27 m long), it remains airy in the city, but offers an amazing useful volume and a height that can comfortably accommodate 4 or 5 passengers with their luggage.  Particularly powerful, with an always remarkable design, it remains true to the original spirit while offering a very contemporary interpretation.

   Smart #1 is already available for pre-order on the website and will be available from the second quarter of 2023.  Pre-ordering is very easy, by subscribing to a 500 euro voucher (fully refundable) you can be one of the first to place an order and receive your car on D-Day.

   ANOTHER DESIGN TO INCLUDE

   Since its launch in 1998, the smart has always had a real personality.  A tradition respected here with the smart #1, but in a completely new, very contemporary style, to seduce a new audience of lovers of beautiful objects.

   The shape of Smart Car No. 1 is centered on the curves, with elements drawn from the world of SUVs, but again explained by the brand's style.  The floating panoramic roof in a contrasting colour, the frameless doors or the LED strips over the entire width of the vehicle are original features.  They don't have an aggressive streak to worry about in this soft and friendly group.  Not even the recessed door handles, which open as soon as the key is detected in your pocket as you approach the car.

   Inside, the design is fully aligned with the outside.  Starting with the rounded dashboard, extended with a surprisingly floating center console full of handy storage compartments, including an induction charging surface (for placing and charging your smartphone) and a place for a charging badge.

TIMELY AND... (FORCED) INTELLIGENT

    The light atmosphere in the interior can be adjusted with 64 colors and 20 intensity levels.  There are two screens: the first is dedicated to instrumentation and the second, with a surface of 12.8 inches, is dedicated to infotainment.  It includes customizable widgets as well as Fox, the fox-shaped voice assistant.  From the premium version onwards, a head-up display completes the picture.

    The Smart #1 plays like a true small family car with its sliding rear seat, which allows you to modulate the interior to your needs.  This then makes it possible to choose the luggage (volume 313 to 411 liters depending on the version) or the very wide space available for the rear passengers.  Under the hood, the "frunk" - the front trunk - conveniently houses a charging cable.

    Of course, smart also thought about remote control of its brand new car from a smartphone.  Through the Hello Smart application it is possible to track autonomy, battery status, car location and tire pressure in real time.  Available for Android and iOS, this app can also unlock and start the vehicle, and can be shared to give virtual keys to friends.  With the app, you can also enable passenger compartment preconditioning and load sequence programming.

    A SERIOUS TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

    Peasant, smart number 1?  Definitely not.  This new all-electric model benefits from all the combined experience of Mercedes and Geely.  Smart #1 is based on a brand new technology board called SAE for Sustainable Experience Engineering.  Enough to give it an excellent level of comfort and soundproofing worthy of a premium road car rather than a rough city car!

    Driving pleasure is the focus of its design.  It is generously equipped with ... 272 ​​hp from the first version and 343 Nm of torque, which is distributed only to the rear wheels.  At the wheel, the sensations are there with very lively acceleration, which goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7s and excellent handling in the city.

    Sportsmen go straight to the Brabus version, which gets a second engine and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in four-wheel drive with 428 hp and 3.9 s.  A very fast model and especially efficient on smooth surfaces.

    A beefy battery with a capacity of 66 kWh (gross) is on the agenda for stress-free long-distance travel: As a result, it enables up to 440 km of WLTP autonomy.  Shutting down the motorway is quick, just 30 minutes with the included 150kW DC fast charge.  With the 22 kW on-board charger (available from the premium version), you can charge from 10 to 80% in less than 3 hours.

    Finally, in terms of driving aids, the smart #1 uses modern elements with semi-autonomous driving to facilitate long drives on the highway.  In the city, 360° cameras help with zen maneuvers with a virtual view of the car.

The good surprise: the all-inclusive prices

    Smart #1 will be launched in 4 different versions.  It starts from 39,990 euros in the Pro+ version (6,000 euros must be deducted from the 2022 environmental bonus) and is already well equipped.  The comfort-seeking public will find what they're looking for: a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera system, 19-inch rims, electric heated seats, a sliding rear seat and an electric tailgate are standard.  plus semi-autonomous stop-and-go driving.

    The premium version also comes with a heat pump, a more powerful on-board charger (22 kW), leather interior and a Beats sound system for 43,490 euros.  The very exclusive Launch Edition (€44,790), which is limited to 1,000 units across Europe, impresses with intense white upholstery, a panoramic checkered flag-pattern roof and a unique color combination.

    Finally, the Brabus Sport Edition tops the range (€47,490) with two engines and very generous performance.

    SMART made the (laudable) decision not to offer any options.  But since taste and colors are not discussed, 48 color combinations are available upon request.  They allow you to play with the contrasting ceiling and the matte finish as a complement.  Just customize your dream model, unlike the other smart models we will see on our roads and on our roads from next spring.
