2023 MAZDA CX-9: THE ONE THAT SETS A CLASS

2023 MAZDA CX-9 : THE ONE THAT SETS A CLASS

Mazda is one of the few automakers that doesn't offer a luxury brand, but if it did, the CX-9 could most definitely be one of them.  Finally, the entry-level versions of the SUV from the Japanese manufacturer are fine where they are, but the Mazda CX-9 takes us to a whole new level from the GT version.  Thus, the GT, Kuro and Signature versions could very well have evolved in a brand like Lexus for Toyota or Acura for Honda.  However, Mazda offers no such thing, and that's probably why the CX-9 should be at the top of your list for the purchase of your next vehicle, especially if you don't really value prestige.  of a logo.

The Mazda CX-9 does not offer any major novelties for 2023, which is not really a problem since the Japanese manufacturer's SUV already offers a very complete and balanced range.  Thus, the Mazda CX-9 remains a very comfortable, versatile vehicle full of advanced technologies for 2023. The CX-9 is not a large SUV like the others.  It offers less towing capacity and its cargo space is more restricted.  However, it offers an experience that is closer to that of a luxury SUV and that is why it remains so popular despite everything.

 Range and prices

The 2023 Mazda CX-9 lineup is made up of 5 models starting with the GS version with a starting price of $41,550, which does not include freight and PDI of $1,950 and tax  air conditioning $100.  It must be said that this version offers fairly complete standard equipment with a 10.25-inch touch screen, a torque vector control system that makes driving even more comfortable, automatic air conditioning and several other equipment that we do not need.  would not expect to find in an entry-level version.

We then move on to the GS-L version, which has a starting price of $45,300 and offers impressive upgrades such as 20-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof.  Things start to get serious with the $50,550 GT version, which gives us ventilated front seats, 360-degree vision and a hands-free tailgate.  Then, the Kuro version comes to you for $52,150 with its darker finish.  Finally, the Signature version sits at the top of the 2023 Mazda CX-9 lineup with a starting price of $53,550 and a finish that has nothing to envy to those of the most prestigious models of a similar format.

 Design

Despite the fact that the creation of its design dates back almost 7 years, the Mazda CX-9 is still in the game aesthetically.  The SUV from the Japanese manufacturer offers an athletic and very elegant silhouette.  I have to admit that its finish is pretty understated overall and the fact that it doesn't feature any flamboyant color doesn't really help the situation.  Nevertheless, that is what makes it so charming and that is why so many people appreciate it.

 Interior and technologies

As is the case for the exterior, the interior design of the Mazda CX-9 remains quite sober, but it is in the quality of assembly and materials that the SUV from the Japanese manufacturer shines.  Needless to say, the latter is among the most comfortable vehicles in its category and its technologies are quite simple to use.

 Performance

The 2023 Mazda CX-9 offers only one engine and it is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers power that varies between 227 and 250 horsepower and torque that varies between 310 and 320 lb-  foot of torque depending on the type of fuel you are using.  Everything is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.  The Mazda CX-9 therefore has an average fuel consumption of 11.6L/100km in the city and 9.1L/100km on the highway, which is within the good average for the category.

 The weak spots

The fact that the Mazda CX-9 offers slightly below-average towing capacity and, above all, more limited cargo space is certainly a disadvantage compared to the competition.  I sincerely would have liked the SUV from the Japanese manufacturer to offer more flamboyant colors.

 The strong points

It's one of the most fun-to-drive vehicles in its class and there's comfort on all counts.  The Mazda CX-9 is elegant, reliable and very durable.  It is a vehicle that lacks nothing in terms of equipment and its design is set to age well.

 signature element

The 2023 Mazda CX-9 offers one of the best quality/price ratios in its class and this is even more true as you approach the top of its range.  The Signature version is breathtaking, nothing less.

The final word

As you may have noticed, Mazda's lineup began to change some time ago with the introduction of the CX-30 and CX-50.  Unsurprisingly, one of the next vehicles to be added to the Japanese manufacturer's lineup could well be the CX-90 and everything suggests that it could take the place of the CX-9.  It's a shame for sure, but we must not forget that the current generation of the CX-9 has been on the market since 2016 and the fact that it is still so popular today proves how solid its concept is at its core.  .  However, as all good things must come to an end, the CX-90 will soon take the place of the CX-9 and the least we can say is that the latter will have set the bar very high for its replacement.
