TOP 10 BEST ENGINES IN 2022 ACCORDING TO WARDSAUTO

TOP 10 BEST ENGINES IN 2022 ACCORDING TO WARDSAUTO

Every year, the firm WardsAuto offers us its Top 10 of the best engines available on the market and 2022 is no exception.  There are many surprises on the program this year, but I think you will not be surprised to learn that several of the engines on this list belong to 100% electric vehicles.

Again, there are no V8 engines on the list this year, proving how much the market has evolved over the past few years.  Certainly, there are several excellent V8 engines still available on the market, but these are no longer at the top of the industry, because it is more efficient and energy-efficient engines that now occupy this place.  As you will see, the most voluminous engine found in the Top 10 this year is a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6.

In short, without further ado, here is the Top 10 of the best engines in 2022 according to WardsAuto.  By the way, note that there is no particular order for this list.

1 – Acura Integra A-Spec

1.5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine
Acura resurrected one of the biggest names in the industry this year.  Moreover, in order not to do things by halves with the Integra, the Japanese manufacturer has decided to opt for a mechanism similar to that found under the hood of the Honda Civic SI.  It is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.  This mechanism is both efficient and economical at the pump and this is what allows it to be on this list.

2 – Ford F-150 Lightning

Electric motorization
The Ford F-150 Lightning was definitely one of the most anticipated electric vehicles on the market and I have to say that so far it does not disappoint.  Of course, the first copies arrive in dribs and drabs and the manufacturer is far from being able to supply on demand.  The autonomy of the model varies between 376 and 515 kilometers depending on the version for which you opt.

3 – GMC Hummer EV

Electric motorization
With its retromodern look, the crab driving mode and the mind-blowing numbers that come with it, we can say that the Hummer has caused a sensation since its official launch.  GMC decided to revive the Hummer and I have to say it was one of the best ideas the brand could have had.  The model continues to gain popularity and this is what has made many people become more interested in the brand.  Its autonomy varies between 402 and 482 kilometers.

4-Hyundai IONIQ 5

Electric motorization
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been proclaimed the car of the year by several media outlets and with good reason.  Its futuristic look, its technologies and the many versions it offers have allowed it to rank among the most popular electric vehicles currently available on the market.  Its autonomy varies between 354 and 488 kilometers depending on the version for which you opt.

5 – Lucid Air

Electric motorization
Lucid isn't a household name yet, but it's only a matter of time before it takes over North America and the world.  Its autonomy varies between 653 and 830 kilometers depending on the version for which you opt.  And I'm not even talking about his breathtaking performances.

6 – Mercedes-Benz EQS

Electric motorization
Mercedes-Benz also launched its first all-electric production models this year and the EQS has it all.  Its range varies between 500 and 547 kilometers from a single charge.

7 – Nissan Rogue

1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine
While some manufacturers have decided to opt for hybrid mechanics, plug-in hybrid or 100% electric, at Nissan, we decided to do otherwise for the Rogue.  The latter is therefore entitled to a rather impressive new engine despite its small size.  It is a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.

8 – Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and electric motor
The letters 4xe are starting to ring in the minds of Jeep enthusiasts who want to make the switch to electric.  This combination offers the convenience of a gasoline engine and the savings of an electric motor in terms of energy costs.  The range may be limited compared to the competition, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is nonetheless interesting, especially since it is one of the only large SUVs currently available on the market that offers a  PHEV system.

9 – Jeep Grand Wagoneer

3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine
Jeep surprised many with the launch of the Wagoneer family, which offers larger-than-life SUVs.  At the very beginning, you had the choice between a 5.7 liter V8 engine or a 6.4 liter V8 engine, which is almost an outrage in the world we live in.  Finally, it didn't take long for the American manufacturer to present us with a second rather interesting mechanism in the form of a turbocharged 6-cylinder in-line 3.0-litre engine.  This mechanism will offer as much, if not more power than V8 engines while offering better fuel consumption than the latter.

10 - Toyota Tundra

3.5-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with electric motor
This is the only hybrid engine on this list, but the I-Force Max engine fully deserves its place in this Top 10. It is a brand new engine for the Japanese manufacturer and it is already very popular.  Finally, it must be said that Toyota has taken an already half-beaten path here since Ford has greatly popularized turbocharged V6 engines in full-size pickup trucks.  The only thing that changes here is that Toyota has added its two cents with a hybrid system, which increases power while maintaining excellent average fuel consumption.
